By day, Heather works as the social media adviser at Host. But her evenings are governed by ambitious kitchen projects that progressively shift her bedtime later and later. 'I have a neglected 'yummy things’ blog, likeomg.org, which I constantly promise I’ll get back to updating regularly. It’ll probably be this week. Maybe," she says.
What's your secret food shame?
My secret food shame is eating dessert, like a huge piece of chocolate cake with salted caramel buttercream or Eton mess whilst watching shows like The Biggest Loser or Dance Your Ass Off. I’m well aware of the irony that lies in there, which perhaps makes it even more shameful.
What's your favourite ingredient?
Cheese. I would most definitely die without it. If you’re coming to my house, there will undoubtedly be a menu based around it. Right now, I’m doing a gorgonzola panna cotta with a blackberry balsamic reduction and candied sunflower seeds that everyone raves about – I’ve been meaning to blog it. I’ll get it up this week.
Where would you go on a first date?
If the company is as impressive as the food, that’s one hurdle cleared. If the date turns into a disaster, then you’re at least left with a great dining experience. In Sydney, I’d say go see Dan Knight at Longrain for cocktails – the chilli-coconut martini is ridiculous. In Melbourne, go for dinner at Church St Enoteca. It’s luxe, it’s romantic, and Ron O’Brien makes the most magical three-cheese ravioli with aged balsamic. You’ll be falling in love at least once during that date.
