The Olympics are in full swing, and naturally, Australia is already bringing home those sweet sweet gold medals. But, there’s more to life than sport – like, for example, food. Major events are the perfect excuse for those who love another excuse to cook to try their hand at new dishes – and of course, everyone on the Internet is doing it.

Check out these awesome creations from Olympics devotees – and those who just love a theme – around the world.

First up, these inspired cupcakes.

The Caipirinha is the national cocktail of Brazil (we think all countries should have a national cocktail), and it’s primarily made from a sugarcane liquor. So, naturally, someone has turned the cocktail into baked goods – with these incredible Caipirinha cupcakes.

Want to make your own? We’ve got a great Caipirinha recipe here to get you started.

Of course there would be doughnuts for the games. Perfect little round sugary treats with Olympic icing.

Those insanely glossy doughnuts are by Dzung Duong of Honeysuckle - check out her recipe and video for Mirror Glaze Olympic Doughnuts on  her website here

Or how about a pastel take?

Will you look at these cute mini torch cupcakes?

Staying on the torch theme, look at this insane Olympic torch carved watermelon. The intricacy! The dedication! That is a gold medal carving job right there.

Those luscious little desserts above are called brigadeiros – and they are basically the Brazilian version of a rich, chocolate truffle. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered for a recipe.

Mmm, cookies. These perfectly decorated Olympic ring cookies made someone’s Opening Ceremony party an absolute delight! Once again, we’ll forgive them for not supporting Australia with their dinnerware.

Fruit and vege platters with Olympic themed colours seem to be popping up everywhere this year, and we’re digging it. Baked goods are great, but occasionally its time to give your sugar-filled body a little break.

Also on the savoury side, ring-themed:

And drinks are gettin' in on the ring action too:

But mostly, it's all about the sweet stuff! Check out these medal-worthy cupcakes from Linds Morrison, a "sugar addict, self-taught baker turned pastry student".

Now feeling in the mood to do a spot of Brazilian-inspired baking? We've got you. If you've got time for some yeast-risen pull-aparts, these pão doce com coco are the bomb:

Did you know the passionfruit originated in Brazil? Indeed it did, and it features in a lot of the country's desserts. Try this light, sweet bolo de maracujá (passionfruit cake):

No baking required for these sweet coconut and caramel balls, just a bit of stirring. Super-simple - whip em up and eat while catching more of the medal action!
