Have your food story published in this brand-new book

Profiling the diverse talent covering food in Australia, Diversity in Food Media is creating a book in collaboration with Australian publisher Somekind Press. They are on the lookout for writers from all walks of life with a food story to tell. Could this be you?

We all know food is a unifier and it's safe to say there are many of us out there that have some incredible food memories, gems, stories and anecdotes tucked away.

This brand-new book will be a platform for under-represented voices on food. Diversity in Food Media (DIFMA) is looking for new and emerging talent and welcome any Australian who is from an Indigenous, LGBTQI or culturally and linguistically diverse background, has a disability or is from any other under-represented community to submit their new work across a range of formats - from personal essays to comics, illustrations, photos, poetry and articles etc. - on our favourite topic - FOOD!
Submission details from the DIFMA team:

• Text contributions should be maximum 2000 words and any illustrations/photos will be published in black and white.⁣

• The tone is for a general audience. Humour and personality is definitely welcome. We’d especially like to see personal accounts about food.⁣

• If you need inspiration, ask yourself: “what could only I write/draw/cover about food?”⁣

• Published work will be paid.⁣

• All work must be new and if you want to get very specific: text contributions should be under 2000 words and any illustrations/photos will be published in black and white. Please spread the word.

Please email your submission to diversityinfoodmedia.au@gmail.com by September 7.

If you'd like to preorder your copy of New Voices on Food, you can do so via Australia's first crowd-funded publisher Somekind Press right here who will be producing this epic food tale under the supreme eye of Luisa Brimble and the incredible editorship of Lee Tran Lam.
We can only hope this is the first of many anthologies speaking to and celebrating the diverse food stories Australia has on offer.
