Karla Grant is Living Black's presenter and executive producer.

This year Karla embarks on her eighth year as Presenter and Executive Producer of Living Black, SBS TV's prime-time national Indigenous current affairs program. In doing so, Karla is fulfilling a lifetime dream to represent the interests and concerns of indigenous Australians.

Karla was appointed Executive Producer of SBS's Indigenous Media Unit in 2002. From there, she developed the concept for Living Black which first aired in February 2003.

Karla has worked for SBS for over a decade. She was a presenter, producer, reporter and director of the Walkley award-winning ICAM program, SBS TV's ground-breaking Indigenous current affairs show that preceded Living Black. Karla reported on a wide range of issues for ICAM - politics, sports, the arts - and also produced a number of mini documentaries.

Karla has produced TV specials on reconciliation, land rights and the 1998 Federal election as well as crafting documentaries on the 2001 and 2002 Survival concerts. Karla was also part of the team that covered Corroborree 2000.

For the past seven  years, Karla has also produced SBS TV's coverage of The Deadly Awards, the national awards for Indigenous excellence in music, sport, entertainment and community service.

Before joining SBS, Karla worked as a producer, director, reporter and presenter of Channel 10's Aboriginal Australia a national Aboriginal magazine program, covering positive stories of Aboriginal achievement. She also worked for a leading production house in Canberra producing corporate videos and hosted a weekly show on community radio station 2XX.

Born in Adelaide, Karla is extremely proud of her Dutch and Aboriginal heritage. She's in demand as an MC and public speaker and regularly contributes stories to a wide range of publications. Karla is a patron of the Lights, Camera, Action initiative which helps Indigenous children pursue careers in the media and entertainment industries. She's also an Ambassador for the Breast Cancer Network Australia and Save the Children.

Karla is passionate about giving Indigenous Australians a voice in the media and believes that Living Black successfully fosters a better understanding amongst all Australians about the plight of Indigenous people.
