Well this is sad.
The baker who promised to sell his bakery for 1 euro to the homeless man who saved his life has now fired the man from his business.
Why? Because the homeless man, Jerome Aucant, 37, apparently verbally abused a female journalist over the phone. Aucant was allegedly drunk during the interview.
The incident has been described as "the last straw" for baker Michel Flamant, 62, by France's English language newspaper, The Connextion.
“Once he hung up, I told him that we do not talk like that to a woman. He started to attack me, insulting me, so I told him to leave,” Flamant told the newspaper.
Baker Michel Flamant, 62, had first hired the homeless man, Jerome Aucant, 37, last December after the latter saved the former from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a leaking oven.
Flamant later decided he would pass on his establishment to Aucant when he retired, planning to sell his bakery to Aucant for just 1 euro ($1.50AUD).
Flamant had planned to retire later this year, in September.
Aucant told French-language newspaper Le Progrès that all the media attention over the planned sale had been too much to cope with. "Moi je voulais simplement faire mon boulot." ("Me, I just wanted to do my job.")
