Adam Perry is a toast master. The British father transforms ordinary white toast into architectural wonders – the Brooklyn Bridge, the London Eye – for his youngest daughter, whose severe allergies means she has the same breakfast of white toast with sunflower oil every single day.
Perry told America’s ABC news that he started to feel really sorry his daughter. “So I started playing with toast to get her excited about her breakfast again and to make both the girls laugh when they came down to eat.”
Now, Perry has opened an Instagram account (@2slicesoftoast) dedicated to his carb-heavy art, and it’s already a hit, with more than 3000 followers. His creations range from the architectural:
...to the timely - such as the door of No. 10 Downing St to celebrate Britain’s new PM:
... the ambitious, such as this excellent desk lamp:
... and a little Olympic spirit.
While Perry admits to sometimes feeling anxious about what to make in the morning before he goes to sleep at night, he says that most of the time, he gets his ideas from his wife and daughters. Often, he won’t know what he’s going to make when he pushes the toast into the toaster. Each creation is made within the time it takes for his kettle to boil (luckily, he says, the kettle is quite old and slow) and only ever with two slices of toast. Perry plans on making a toast creation every day for a year, and then making a coffee table book with the 365 artworks.
