Melbourne's newest unorthodox pizza slingers are Stretched and they're celebrating their opening in Coburg tomorrow by giving away free pizzas between 5pm and 7pm.
No sticklers for tradition, Stretched are going all-out with an arsenal of eccentric toppings. Take the pho-meets-pizza incarnation, the Un-Pho-Gettable: steak, Spanish onions, Sriracha sauce, sprouts and Vietnamese basil (no noodles, thank the pizza gods). There’s also the burger-leaning Hangover, a fast food-inspired medley of lean ground beef, bacon, gherkins, American cheddar, ketchup and mustard sauce.
When it comes to bases though, they’re sticking to tradition, choosing hand-stretching over rolling, which allows the dough to stretch more naturally and apparently makes the crust less likely to tear.

Stretched is the brainchild of husband and wife duo chef Dario D’Agostino and Ly Nguyen, plus ex-banker turned pizza-maker Joe Codespoti. They’re also the team behind St Kilda’s loved Pizza e Birra and Port Melbourne and Brunswick brunch hotspot Long Story Short.
There’s gluten free bases available at no extra charge and Stretched is vegan and veg friendly, with five 100 per cent plant based options and several vego ones on the menu. They even have a take-away liquor license featuring wine and Hawkers and O’Brien (gluten free) beer.
Get down to 53 Moreland Rd (corner of Nicholson St) tomorrow – Thursday 19 April – from 5pm - 7pm to nab your free dinner. If you happen to miss out, the pizzas will be discounted at $10 a pop after 7pm. Run, don’t walk.
