Taste of Sydney is the food festival to end all food festivals, and the place to be if you want to gorge yourself from pillar to post. As a result of me responding to a tweet, I was fortunate enough to attend Taste as one of SBS Food’s Taste of Sydney reviewers! Said reviewers were a lucky few, who were given Crowns (the festival currency) galore and an extra special VIP pass to access the event, sample Taste’s finest and write about it whilst snapping away. Matt Kemp’s brand-new Surry Hills bistro, The Devonshire, may have dominated attention in the media lately, but eyes (and stomachs) were firmly focused on his first pride and joy, Restaurant Balzac, this past weekend. A regular highlight at Taste of Sydney, it seems Kemp has a particular gift for feeding the hordes and producing restaurant-calibre food en masse. And in a makeshift kitchen, no less. Read more
