These themed restaurants and cafes in Singapore take dining to a new level

There is no shortage of cafes and restaurants in Singapore serving cuisines from around the world. But if you like a bit of fun with your food, Singapore has plenty of themed cafes and restaurants to please every taste.

Selfie Coffee SingaporeImageRather than staring at your phone as you sip your coffee, why not look at your own face staring back at you from your latte? At Selfie Coffee, customers order their drink, and are then invited to take an on-the-spot selfie with the cafe's smart devices. The photo is uploaded to the printing machine, and "printed" onto the whipped cream on top of their coffee. Props such as over-sized sunglasses and flowers can be used in the shoots, or customers can bring their own pictures. Superhero ConceptImageOn a November evening in 2014, a chef, an editor, a psychologist, and a tennis coach came up with the idea of opening Superhero Concept, Singapore's first superhero themed cafe to empower men, women and children every day. Stocked with all sorts of superhero merchandise, including action figures, bobble heads, accessories, and apparel, customers can play with Thor's hammer, Iron Man's mask and Captain America's shield as they tuck into food "fit for a superhero". Those who want to put their own super powers to the test can take on challenges such as arm-wrestling the resident superhero to win a free drink, or share how they plan to save the world on social media with the hashtag #superheroconcept for 20 per cent off their meal.

NOX - Dine in the DarkImageNOX- Dine in the Dark offers more than just dining: "It is a unique mind-altering sensory experience", the website promises. At NOX, you'll be seated in a pitch-black dining room, and served modern European food by a blind or visually impaired person who has been trained to offer guidance and reassurance to sighted guests. With all visual stimulation removed, the restaurant promises that your other senses will be heightened. It also claims to be one of the most romantic restaurants in Singapore. And, as an added bonus, you won't have to worry about whether you have spinach in your teeth.

LabyrinthImageDishes at Labyrinth showcase local Singaporean flavours and are designed to arouse the five basic taste sensations: sweet, sour, salty, bitter and umami. Banker-turned-self-taught chef Han Li Guang uses food science and modern technology to re-interpret the Singapore flavours and textures of his childhood, and calls his food "Neo-Sin". Diners can choose between the 'Discovery' and the 'Experience' menu, both of which are categorised into different times of the day, starting at 8am and finishing at 7am the next day.

BrewlingsImageThe first dedicated eSports Bar in Singapore, Brewlings is owned by 3 enthusiastic gamers. Customers can watch live streams of their favourite eSports tournaments such as Dota 2, League of Legends, Street Fighter and CSGO, or participate in tournaments and games like beer pong and pool, while enjoying drinks with friends. The menu is drinks only, but the bar is located near the Chomp Chomp Food Centre, if you need to duck out and refuel between tournaments.

Bricks n CubesImageLego lovers will enjoy a meal at Bricks n Cubes. For the decor, think tables and booths that look like oversized Lego blocks. According to their website, "the brightly colored design utilizes Dr.Max Lüscher’s color psychology to inculcate happiness and foster creativity. One your creativity has been sparked, there are Lego models to tinker with, and a padded play area with Lego and Duplo blocks for kids aged two to six.

AntoinetteImageIf you're in Singapore but fancy more of a French renaissance vibe, pick a perfect pastry, eat some meticulously crafted cakes, and fill yourself with joie de vivre at Antoinette. Named after Marie Antoinette, the last Queen of France, who was renowned for her sophisticated fine taste, the restaurant looks like a gilt boudoir and serves up a variety of French fare. Try the Antoinette - milk chocolate mousse infused with earl grey tea, chocolate biscuit, dark chocolate earl grey tea cremeux, raspberry coulis and earl grey tea crumble.
