Ingredients
- 200 g plain flour
- 50 g rice flour
- 75 g sugar (see Note)
- Salt
- 300 ml water
- 4–6 ripe bananas
- Cooking oil, for deep-frying
- Chocolate sauce, freshly grated coconut, to serve (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, rice flour, sugar and a pinch of salt. While mixing, gradually add the water in a constant stream, until the batter is smooth and well combined.
- Peel the bananas and slice lengthwise. They can also be sliced into rounds if you prefer.
- Heat enough oil in a medium saucepan to deep-fry over medium heat. Dip the sliced banana individually into the batter, until completely coated, then gently place into the hot oil and deep-fry until golden and crisp. Repeat with remaining sliced bananas.
- Transfer the deep-fried bananas to a plate lined with paper towels to drain of any excess oil. Remove to a serving plate and drizzle with chocolate sauce and sprinkle with coconut (if using).
Note
If you prefer a less sweet pisang goreng, reduce the sugar quantity in the batter to your taste.
