Meetings between south east Asian and world leaders have taken place in Vientiane, the capital of Laos. The Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit and merged with the 11th annual East Asia summit for the two day event. It featured leaders from countries ranging from Australia and New Zealand to China and Japan, and and even as far as the United States and Russia. High on the agenda were various security issues in the region.
