Israel has reacted with anger after the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution calling for it to immediately halt settlement construction on occupied Palestinian land. It happened because the United States changed its usual veto policy -- and abstained from the vote. The resolution states the settlements have no legal validity and constitute a flagrant violation of international law.
