Action: Chinese law maker proposed to make English course as elective

Mr Li Guangyu, one of the Chinese law makers, proposed a bill in the Peoples Congress to push English course become elective. Under the current education system, Chinese students have to pass a compulsory foreign language test in Gaokao to get into the college. Critics argue that whether it is necessary to make the foreign language skill, especially English skill become a must-have for students.
