Australia Day – Day for celebration or not?

Source: SBS

Melbourne's Darebin Coucile voted for changes to Australia day before which Yarra Council made the similar motion, voted to drop references to Australia Day and cancel citizenship ceremonies on January the 26th. The Yarra mayor, Amanda Stone, aid the date did not take into account the feelings of the Australian indigenous people. PM Turnbull said it was an attack on Australian values. The federal government then announced the cancellation of the right of Yarra municipal government to hold any government naturalization ceremony. Is January 26 the invasion day or National Day? How do you see the moves taken by some local councils to change the Australian day? Do you think if the Australia Day should be changed?

We have two guests in the talk-back. One is Mr. Xiaoping Zhou, a famous Australian-Chinese artist who had been in the indigenous communities for more than 20 years. The other guest is Charlie Chen who is the Honorary president of chairman of Australian Minnan Association Incorporated.
