Monash’s business school human resources management class conducted a controversial quiz triggered a “storm”. A test question was " There is a common saying in China that Chinese officials only speak the truth when?" The correct answer was "They are drunk or careless." Another question is "What is the main obstacle to the introduction of new technologies and industrial reforms in China?" The correct answer was "lack of skilled workers, especially managers." These questions were alleged to vilify China, some students were dissatisfied. The Chinese Consulate General in Melbourne negotiated with the school. The school finally withdrew the question, suspended the work of a lecture and abandoned the textbook, and expressed "no unqualified apology" for the incident. How do you look at the issue? Is it as some commentary says, the Australian Universities are giving up academic freedom and bowing to economic interests? Would such questions affect Australia's values?
