Australian schools to be banned from discriminating against gay students

No school will be allowed to exclude students based on their sexuality, under changes to be introduced by the federal government.


The federal government will look to implement laws in the next two weeks, which will stop religious schools from excluding students based on their sexuality.

A leaked review of religious freedoms includes a recommendation to allow religious schools to discriminate against students on the basis of their sexuality.

But Prime Minister Scott Morrison is rejecting that, and says his government will strengthen discrimination laws to remove any opportunity for schools to discriminate.
