After the arrest of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou was announced by Canada's Department of Justice on Dec 5, a statement by the Chinese embassy in Canada said, "At the request of the US side, the Canadian side arrested a Chinese citizen not violating any American or Canadian law." Shen Du, host of ACM “Zhou's Talkshow”, told SBS Mandarin that China’s response to Huawei arrest showed the weak legal sense.
