Auburn City Council in NSW was suspended due to misconducts of some councilors, including the controversial deputy mayor Salim Mehajer. The NSW government is also being urged to ban developers or real estate agents from public office after Mehajer was suspended for failing to disclose his financial interests. How does a city councilor manage to avoid conflicts of interests in their work? Does the Department of Local Governments from the state have the power to dismiss an elected city council? Councillor of Manningham Council Ms Jennifer Yang said, even it is rare, the state government does have the legal power to sack a city council considering its incapability to maintain normal function.
