The AI-driven photo augmentation tool, FaceApp, has sparked privacy concerns across the globe.

With impressive features, capable of transforming young faces into old and switching gender, FaceApp is now one of the world's most downloaded free applications.

However, users, politicians and academics are questioning whether the Russian owned company is stealing our data, given its broad-ranging and unsettling privacy terms and conditions.

SBS Mandarin spoke with Yenni Tim, a cyber security expert from the University of NSW, about what's behind the FaceApp controversy. She says it reveals how little we know about privacy.
