Autism is a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition, with a global prevalence estimated at 1 in 68 individuals. Like many other diseases, it requires early diagnosis and treatment for recovery, the earlier the better. Research collaboration between La Trobe University and Nankai University has prompted the rollout of a broad program to help detect autism at a young age in Tianjin. Chongying Wang, Associate Professor and Director of the Centre for Behaviour Sciences, Nankai University talks to Yin Wu about the success that has been achieved since 2013.

She also shares the reasons behind a worldwide autism epidemic and how can parents take advantage of the newly launched ASDetect mobile app to access information, videos, and learn signs to be aware of when monitoring children’ development.
