John Alexander has won the Bennelong by-election, keeping Malcolm Turnbull's parliamentary majority intact and giving the prime minister a new lease on life. Meanwhile, Kristina Keneally claimed the party was "energised" by the result because if the swing was replicated in a general election, Labor would gain up to 28 seats. Local Chinese voters have showcased their passion on local politics. Their concerns regarding tax cuts, medicare cuts, NBN, China influence and foreign political donations have affected the votes.
