The United States says it intends to withdraw from a decades-old nuclear treaty with Russia.

The United States says it would withdraw from the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces Treaty with Russia in six months, unless Moscow ends its alleged violations of the landmark 1987 arms control pact.

The US would reconsider its withdrawal if Russia, which denies violating the treaty, complies with the agreement.

The deal bans both nations from stationing short- and intermediate-range land-based missiles in Europe.

Late last year, the US gave Russia 60 days to comply with the treaty.

Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo says violations have continued.
