Isabel Zhang, from independent Melbourne based research consultancy Bastion Latitude, has conducted a new study .
The study uncovered both positive and negative findings:
- Chinese migrants come to Australia to chart their own course, enjoy the freedom and relaxed lifestyle that Australia offers.
- The majority (68%) think that Australia has a slower pace compared to China and 61% view Australia as more quiet and peaceful.
- 1 in 3 Chinese migrants reported some form of racism; one respondent sharing "When I was walking on the street, a car flew in front of me, wound down the window and yelled/scolded me; When I was coming out from a mall, a person upstairs spat on my head".
- Interestingly, just over half (56%) of Chinese migrants interviewed said that language has affected their employment prospects.
