During the Chinese traditional Qing Ming festival (a festival when they visit their deceased relatives), a lot of China’s media have reported that many Chinese people complain about how the houses are too expensive, also said that the graves they are going to be in later, are even more expensive. Not only are the graves expensive, you can’t even buy one because there aren’t any places to put the tombs anywhere, especially in Beijing and Shanghai. Once the media have reported about this information, the Chinese people from all around the country, including many Chinese from Australia, became worried that when they pass away. But interestingly, the Chinese communities are not fond of any topics that are related to funerals, but it is something that is very important to every Chinese person. A lot of them live on a budget daily, so they can save money for their funeral. They would rather spend all their money on their funeral, grave, coffin, tombstone etc, than on their everyday life. There had been some Chinese people claiming that the graveyards in Sydney are not inexpensive. So, I interviewed a large Chinese cemetery company’s chairman, a Shanghainese who just bought graves for his parents, a listing Sydney cemetery company’s sells manager, to compare and inform the difference of cemeteries in Shanghai and Sydney.
