The Western Sydney University established The Australia-China Institute for Arts and Culture where Professor Jocelyn Chey, the formal and first Australian culture counsellor to China, was appointed as the director. In this interview with SBS Radio Mandarin journalist Zhou Li, Professor Chey outlined the future plan for the Institute. The Institute will deepen bilateral relations and enrich understanding of Australia with China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and other centres for Chinese culture - opening doors for further collaborations by research, education, and international exchange. Professor Chey said. The Institute had been partly funded by a $3.5 million donation from business man Mr Xiangmo Huang over the past three years, which was also the largest single donation the University has ever received, according to WSU website.WSU has been investing the Institute by paying staffs salaries and providing facilities. Professor Chey said. Some critics against Bob Carr and his involvements with the UTSs Australia-China Relations Institute need more solid evidence.
