玉林狗肉節——吃狗肉是風俗習慣嗎？

在中國廣西玉林，夏至的到來也意味著一年一度狗肉節的開始。每到這時，玉林著名的狗肉餐廳總是門庭若市，而餐廳門外有關風俗習慣與動物保護的爭論也由此爆髮。

國際人道協會（Humane Society International）Peter Li博士表示，十年前廣西玉林併沒有吃狗肉的節日，狗肉節是噹地商販在近年炒作而來。在玉林狗肉節鼎盛時期，狗肉商販曾將活狗放在籠中供購買者挑選，併噹街宰殺。街頭巷尾，狗狗的慘叫聲也是此起彼伏。近些年，噹地政府迫於輿論壓力，已對噹街宰殺狗只的行為進行整改。但一年一度的狗肉節依然吸引大批獵奇民眾前往圍觀。

李博士表示，希望有關政府能拿出決心，徹底取締狗肉節，同時為狗肉商販提供幫助，協助他們轉變職業。他7月5日出席在悉尼大學舉辦的第27屆國際人道動物學年會，併髮表相關演講。

李博士稱，宰殺的狗只中，有很多是偷盜得來，且已感染嚴重的皮膚疾病。這不僅會使狗肉市場存在違法行為，也會嚴重危害食用者的身體健康。而宰殺者一旦被病狗咬傷，也會存在極高的感染狂犬病的風險。

今年的玉林狗肉節，國際人道協會中國區合作小組，就拯救出了135條狗只。這些狗只品種各異，不難看出都是家養的寵物狗。而在被不法之徒捕捉之後，很多狗只神情低落，甚至感染上疾病。救援小組已將這些狗只送往寵物醫院接受治療。
