Acknowledgement of Country in English
SBS acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Owners of this country, and their enduring and continued connection to land, sea, sky and community.

An Acknowledgement of Country is usually delivered before an introduction or welcome at a range of public and private events, such as speeches and meetings.
It is a way of recognising the Traditional Owners of the country where the event is being held.
SBS Audio programs begin with an Acknowledgement of Country delivered in the language of that program.
We do this to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people's connection to Country, and pay respect to Indigenous Elders past and present.
It is also a way of acknowledging that Australia is a land where sovereignty has never been ceded.
There is no specific wording for an Acknowledgement of Country and anyone can deliver one.
A Welcome to Country is delivered by Traditional Owners, or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who have been given permission from Traditional Owners, to welcome visitors to their Country.
Here is an example of an Acknowledgement of Country;
We would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands, skies and waterways, and pay our respects to Elders past and present. We pay our respects to the world’s oldest continuing culture.
