Badan Singh (also known as Baddan Singh) alias Badoo is a household name in Meerut city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh (UP), owing to his alleged crime syndicate and involvement in high profile cases including offences like murder, extortion, and robbery.

Badan Singh’s escape:

On March 28th, the gangster was named ‘most wanted’ criminal in the UP police's dossiers, after he managed to escape police custody by “convincing” the accompanying cops to escort him to a hotel, while they were on their way to a court hearing in Ghaziabad from the Fatehgarh Central Jail.

After reaching the hotel, Badan then allegedly entertained the team of six police officials to drinks and used the moment to flee from the scene with the help of his aides, the UP police confirmed.
At the time, the 48-year-old was serving a life sentence for murdering a lawyer in 1996.

The police have not made public how a high profile undertrial managed to convince the cops to take a detour, ignoring standard procedures.

Badan Singh in Australia?

Akhilesh Narayan Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police, Meerut told SBS Punjabi over the phone that there is a “huge possibility” that Badan Singh might have already fled or is attempting to enter Australia where a part of his family is reportedly settled.

“Although there is no evidence yet, it can’t be denied that there is a huge possibility of him hiding away in Australia since his family stays there. His Australia connection is a known fact in Meerut,” Mr Singh told SBS Punjabi.

According to a report in Times of India, it is being suspected that Badan may have procured a fake passport and a disguised identity to hide away from the police.

“The police have arrested six police officials and three civilians in the case and an investigation is currently underway into Badan Singh’s whereabouts,” Mr Singh added.
A lookout notice has also been issued to track the runaway fugitive.

Badan Singh’s criminal history:

As far as Badan Singh’s disrepute goes, this only begins to scratch the surface.

Meerut police told SBS Punjabi that there are a total of 43 cases lodged against Badan in various states across north India. He is reported to have business interests in UP, Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, and also in Australia.

Indian journalists who have been tracking his criminal history claim that Badan Singh was introduced to the world of crime at a very young age, perhaps in his late twenties.

From mingling with small-time assailants, his descent into northern India’s underbelly began after he reportedly allied with established gangsters in the region.

But he only grabbed the attention of the Indian media after he murdered lawyer, Ravinder Singh in 1996.

Lavish lifestyle:

Badan Singh’s lifestyle is nothing less than the real-life version of a Hollywood mob character.

Apart from his criminal activities, his love for tailored suits, expensive cars and an extravagant way of living has been known to those who have seen him in person or followed him on social media.

Rumored to have been inspired by the gait of Michael Corleone’s character portrayed by Al Pacino in the iconic film, The Godfather, Badan Singh “fancies” to be listed in the chronicles of criminal underworld lore, said a journalist.
