Building a national team is never simple especially when its players are training across the Philippines, Australia and the UK. Coach Ryan Hutton turned that distance into strength, uniting the Blue Caps for a record-setting campaign at the Asian Cricket Council Women's Premiere Cup in Malaysia.
Key Points
- Uniting a team across borders. Ryan Hutton brought together Filipina players based in the Philippines, Australia and the UK, building one cohesive Blue Caps squad.
- Leading a historic breakthrough. Under his coaching, the Blue Caps delivered their strongest ACC campaign, including a record 203-run total and a 133-run victory over Saudi Arabia.
- Building cricket from the grassroots. Beyond international competition, Hutton is helping develop school programs and clearer pathways for aspiring male and female cricketers in the Philippines.
Girls in sport are very rare. But having girls transition from playing sport to a young age to an older age is very hard because quite often those girls that love sport have to play with boys to get through.Ryan Hutton, Coach for the Philippine Women's National Cricket Team, Blue Caps
One of the things that I have been talking to the women's team is that playing in the Blue Caps is finding that connection is still why it means and what makes it so special and a lot of it comes back to representing your family, taking the pride of your mother's and your father's heritage and taking that to a level where you are able to do something that makes your whole entire family proud of your achievement.Ryan Hutton, Coach for the Philippine Women's National Cricket Team, Blue Caps
