Thirteen-year-old singer-songwriter Pixie Minerva may not have taken home first place in her first competition, but the experience opened a far more valuable door. It gave her the opportunity to meet people who believed in her talent, helped her record her first song, and ultimately led to a series of new opportunities in her musical journey.

Key Points

  • Pixie Minerva just only a runner-up in the first competition she joined, but it was a turning point in her young career. What began as a songwriting contest became the starting point for opportunities that would give her music career a new direction.
  • For Pixie and her mother, Josephine, talent is an important part of succeeding in the music industry—but so is meeting the right people: those who believe in your potential, are willing to support you, and are prepared to give you a chance to step into the world of recording.
  • The first recording became an important milestone for the Central Coast, NSW teenager and marked the beginning of her journey as a singer-songwriter. Since then, Pixie has released three original songs.

According to Pixie’s mother, Josephine, it all began when her daughter entered a local songwriting competition in their area on the Central Coast, New South Wales.

"She didn’t win the first place but she won a runner-up prize but has a free recording. That was really lucky and really a good blessing that started it off and she has a song ready and she felt comfortable with that studio and she has worked with an amazing producer".

Finding the right people to work with is just as important as nurturing Pixie’s talent—especially while she is still young. Having a supportive team she trusts means Pixie can develop her music without feeling pressured or overwhelmed.
