According to studies in Australia, 1 in 7 women may be diagnosed with breast cancer before the age of 85.

Key Points
  • According to Breast Cancer Network Australia, regular alcohol consumption—even in small amounts—increases the risk of breast cancer in both women and men.
  • Women who are middle-aged or older are at higher risk of developing breast cancer. It is estimated that 6.6% of cases in post-menopausal women are linked to alcohol consumption, accounting for up to 18% of deaths from the disease.
  • The study was led by Dr. Jasmin Grigg, a Research Fellow at Monash University, in collaboration with Victoria Health and the addiction treatment centre Turning Point.
