The Philippines has secured a commendable position, ranking 20th out of 113 countries assessed in a recent English proficiency survey conducted by Swiss firm EF Education First (EF). The EF English Proficiency Index (EPI) score of the Philippines is 578, indicating a high level of proficiency in the English language.
Breaking down the geographic scores within the Philippines, the Cordillera Administrative Region emerged as the leader with a score of 616, followed closely by Davao with 606, Eastern Visayas with 596, and the National Capital Region with a score of 593. In terms of cities, Baguio claimed the top spot with a score of 618.

Among the countries categorised as having "very high proficiency," the Netherlands claimed the top position, with Singapore and Austria securing the second and third spots, respectively. In Asia, the Philippines, followed closely behind Singapore while Malaysia also made a notable appearance, securing the 25th position on the global scale.
The neighbouring countries, such as Cambodia and Thailand, exhibited very low proficiency, with the Democratic Republic of Congo in the 113th position, marking the lowest proficiency level.
The EF English Proficiency Index involved 2.2 million participants across 113 countries, with an average age of 26 years. Of the participants, 55 per cent were female.
