Ayon sa World Health Organization (WHO), mas karaniwan ang diverticular disease sa mga nakatatanda, humigit-kumulang 30 porsiyento ng mga edad 60 pataas ang may diverticula o maliliit na supot o bukol na nabubuo sa dingding ng digestive tract, partikular sa malaking bituka, at tumataas ito sa mahigit 60 hanggang 70 porsiyento sa mga edad 80 pataas.
