Si Mrinaal Daat, na lumipat mula India patungong Australia apat na taon na ang nakalipas, ay regular na nagpapadala ng pera sa India, karaniwang ilang daang dolyar bawat padala. Sinabi niya sa SBS Examines na ginagamit ang perang ipinapadala para sa gastusing medikal ng mga magulang ng kanyang partner.
“It just feels like it’s your duty as a child to support them through all their medical procedures,” she said.

"Across the world, it's the people who do not send money home that are in the minority," she said.
"In Australia, and also in the US and in Europe, among Anglo-Celtic communities, they express care in a different way."
Hindi malinaw kung magkano talaga ang kabuuang perang ipinapadala overseas bilang remittances. Tinatayang nasa $21 billion hanggang mahigit $38 billion ang halaga noong 2024, at India ang pinakamalaking nakatanggap nito.
Pero ayon kay Associate Professor Ryan Edwards ng Australian National University, dapat maging maingat at mapanuri tayo sa mga numerong ito.
“We don’t really measure money going out very well ... those numbers are actually much softer."
Even if those estimates were correct, "that would still be under one per cent of our economy."
