SBS Examines: Isang bayan sa NSW, naging tahanan ng maraming kultura

Sa gitnang-kanlurang bahagi ng New South Wales, ang Dubbo ay tahanan ng ilan sa pinakamalalaking komunidad ng Nepali at Indian sa estado.


Dumating si Gargi Ganguly sa Dubbo noong 1999 para sa trabaho. Sinabi niya sa sarili na hindi ito magiging matagal na pananatili.

"I thought to myself, look, yeah, it's a job. I probably stay here two or three years and then I'll move on and go somewhere else," aniya.

Ngunit nanirahan siya doon mula noon at siya ang pangulo ng Orana Residents of Indian Sub-Continental Heritage (ORISCON).
They say that the dust of Dubbo gets to your shoes and it doesn't let you go.
Ang bayan sa gitnang-kanlurang bahagi ng New South Wales ay isa sa pinakamabilis na lumalagong sentro ng iba't ibang kultura sa estado. Mayroon itong malaking populasyon ng mga Indian at Nepali.

Ayon kay Lord Mayor Josh Black, pinaganda ng mga migranteng komunidad ang bayan bilang lugar na tirahan.

"It's really added to the whole sense of community and giving us something that we didn't have previously in Dubbo."

Sinabi ni Gargi na kahit hindi naging madali ang paglalakbay, sulit naman ito.

"They say racism is always at the surface ... not only in country towns, it's everywhere. And I suppose it creeps from the feeling of a fear of the unknown," sabi niya.

"What we wanted to do is create an accepting sort of a community. And ORISCON has helped in creating that, because we create spaces for whole of community [to] come together. Not only a particular discrete cultural group, the whole of the community."

Sinabi niya na kapag nagsama-sama ang buong komunidad, “doon ka natututo, lumalago, umuunlad, at nagiging mga Australiano.”

Ipinagdiriwang ng episode na ito ng SBS Examines ang 50 taon ng pagbisita ng SBS sa Dubbo upang bigyan ng pagkakataon ang mga kwento ng maipagmamalaking mga komunidad na may iba't ibang kultura.
