Sebastian Kayser was born in 1975 and grew up in the former GDR. As a child he identified two pathways to ever seeing the West before hitting 65: Trying to find fulfillment as an elite sportsperson - or becoming a journalist.


"When Maria Sharapova posts a photo, I don't look at her, I look at the background. What book lies on her bedside table? Is her bed made? What does her suitcase look like? The best stories can often be found in those hidden clues."
