Being diagnosed with both a brain tumor and melanoma, Sven Marx from Berlin cycles the world to raise awareness and money. SBS met this inspiring man after his latest stage, which took him to Melbourne.

After having been diagnosed with an only partially removable brain tumor (which resulted in an impaired sense of balance and vision) and a black skin cancer in 2009, Sven Marx from Berlin decided that should he make it to his 50th birthday, he would embark on a tour around the world on his bicycle in order to raise awareness for the importance of inclusion and disabled sports.
He started his tour in 2015 and has since then cycled through numerous countries, met the Pope to get the ‘Inklusionsfackel’ (Flame of Inclusion Torch) blessed, carried the torch to the Paralympic games in Rio in 2016 and has been promoting inclusion and the breaking down of barriers wherever he went.

Sven Marx is currently on his way from Australia to New Zealand. He stopped at the SBS studios in Melbourne to tell his fascinating story.

In the last part of this series Sven Marx talks about his motivation for undertaking an awareness bike ride around the world.
