Australian researchers have dared to go public with a very unusual project. They want to save the endangered Great Barrier Reef with a cloud experiment. A modified turbine - which is supposed to function like a snow cannon - is to spray trillions of salt crystals into the air. When these tiny crystals, extracted from sea salt, mix with the clouds at a low height, the clouds should brighten up and reflect the sunlight away from the sea surface into space.
