End of an era: decommissioned flying boat

An era of civil aviation that was unique in the world ended 50 years ago. Although jet airplanes were already connecting the continents back then, four-engine flying boats still carried passengers and goods between Sydney and Lord Howe Island. In May 1974, it came to an end: the flying boat connection was discontinued without much ceremony. Klaus Mellin, a listener from Kronberg in the Taunus region, has himself been aboard the flying boats several times and remembers these flying adventures.
