“Good bread takes time”

Brotbacken mit Birgit und Hylko

There are only a few things that are more clichéd than Germans who complain about missing pretzels and wholemeal bread. If you want to buy baked goods such as bread or rolls in Germany, you can choose from a very wide range. You have - colloquially spoken - the agony of choice, because with approximately 3,200 different breads in Germany, our "good German bread" became UNESCO World Heritage. So it’s no wonder that even after decades in Australia, the German-speaking community still misses dark bread and fresh, crunchy rolls on Sundays. Birgit and Hylko were the same, so they started baking their own Breads and rolls at home. Fast forward, they offer courses called "The Crunchy Loaf", so that no emigrant has to spend a day without their loved quality bread. SBS correspondent Katharina Loesche attended one of the courses.
