March 21 is Harmony Day. Ernie Friedlander has contributed significantly to this Australian tradition. Throughout his life, the key experience of rescuing the concentration camp by a German soldier was his drive to bring understanding and tolerance to people of all ages.

In the second part of my interview with the Holocaust survivor, he talks about how it all started. However, we begin with the point in his life story, where we last stopped, the end of World War II, which he survived as a Jew in Hungary through the help of a German soldier.

First he went back to his old home in Vienna, and then soon to Australia, where he established himself in the clothing industry.

In 2006, he received the Order of Australia for his role in the Moving Forward Together organization, which works in conjunction with Harmony Day.
