Invasive Ant Species on the Rise: Authorities Warn of Rafts of Fire Ants

Storms and floods have recently caused great devastation in north-east Australia. Now the authorities have identified another danger posed by the wild weather: the red fire ant, an invasive species that causes great damage in parts of Australia, uses the water masses to form ant rafts and "travel" to other parts of the country. The ants pose a threat. Barbara Barkhausen explains what residents in Queensland and northern New South Wales in particular need to watch out for.
