School holidays at her aunt's farmhouse in the quiet provincial town of Gunnedah in N.S.W turned fatal for a 10-year-old girl from Orange.
Early Wednesday morning at 6.30 am, July 8th, mother of the accused went out to do some farm work. Half an hour later she returned at the property only to find her 10 year old niece suffering severe cuts, that looked like carvings on her body. Her 14-year-old daughter was missing.

According to reports, the mother of the teenager who discovered the child's bloodied body inside the house called 000. Police announced that despite the efforts of the girl's revival, the 10-year-old died on the spot. Described her injuries as "severe" and said an autopsy would be performed.
Police did not disclose which object was used as weapon in the deadly attack. However, at 8.30 in the morning, they managed to locate the 14-year-old on a neighbouring property, where they arrested her and charged her with the murder of her cousin. She was denied bail and will appear before court in September.
