Some of the Australians on board the Diamond Princess cruise ship are now in facilities outside Darwin, waiting to start two more weeks of quarantine. Meanwhile, 2 Japanese nationals who were passengers on the ship have died from the virus while hospitalized.

A special Qantas flight landed earlier today in Darwin, bringing home 170 people who were on board the Diamond Princess cruise ship. These are the ones who accepted the federal government’s offer of flying them back home. However their adventure is not over, as they will have to spend 2 weeks in quarantine, in facilities in Howard Springs, 30khm outside Darwin.

In that same facility are currently 266 people evacuated from Wuhan, the epicenter of the virus.

It should be noted that roughly 180 people intended to board the Qantas flight, but 10 of them were diagnosed with the virus and they had to stay behind.
Meanwhile in Japan, the virus has claimed two people in their 80’s, a man and a woman, who had originally been on the ship but were hospitalized last week. According to international news outlets, both victims were facing underlying health problems.
