Dr Paul Pavli (Παύλος Παυλή in Greek) is one of the Greek-Australians that received an award on Australia Day.

He received the award of Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia, “for significant service to medicine, to patient care and as a researcher and mentor”.

The 65 year old lives in Forrest ACT and works in Canberra Hospital. He was born in Sydney in 1954. His parents had migrated from Cyprus to Australia in the ‘40s.

Dr Pavli said he is very proud to receive the award but at the same time he expressed his sadness because both of his parents passed away last year and they are not here to share his joy.

He also said that those awards are significantly more important for migrants and their children because it shows that they have been accepted by the wider Australian society.

He added that migrants and their offspring have extra incentives to work hard and prove themselves and in doing so, contribute towards the welfare of Australian society.
