The family of Kyriakos Kourtis, who was murdered inside his house in Riverstone, at west of Sydney, seek to raise $10,000 online.
The purpose is to return the body of the 39-year-old expatriate, to his homeland of Cyprus, for his funeral and burial.
Kyriakos Kourtis was killed when he was stabbed several times by a group of at least five people, according to local media.
Police later arrested two young men, aged 16 and 17, who had fled the scene by jumping from the fence to the back of the victim's house and charged with murder.
According to the same sources, Kourtis was known to the authorities, with a police representative referring to the possibility that the victim knew the young men who attacked him.
As members of the Greek Community mentioned in our program, Kyriakos Kourtis was born in Australia but his father came from Agios Ambrosios in Kyrenia in Cyprus.
The victim settled permanently in Megalonisos with his family in the mid-1990s, his mother's village of Lymbia, returning to Australia six years ago.
Relatives of the victim with their posts on social media describe the victim as a man with a pure heart who did not deserve such an end.
According to a report in The Sydney Morning Herald, a friend of Kyriakos Kourtis, who had contacted him a few hours before his murder, refers to a peaceful man who liked to spend hours relaxing at home.
"He would come home from work and sit on the bed with his phone to relax. He didn't want anything important. He just wanted family, love and his Greek barbecue. He was a very quiet man. He never drank much, maybe one or two beers every now and then, "he said.
