Several Greek Australian community organisations have joined forces to offer help to individuals and families in financial distress during the coronavirus crisis.

Food donation drives are being run by Melbourne’s and Victoria’s Central Pontian Organisation: Pontiaki Estia, Merimna of Pontian Ladies, the Cretan Federation of Australia and New Zealand, the Pallaconian Brotherhood of Melbourne and Victoria ‘Leonidas’, the Pontian Community, the Cretan Brotherhood and the Pancretan Association.

Vasilis Tzaferis from the Pallaconian Brotherhood said that donation drives will run in May and June, with the initiative expected to continue.

Mr Tzaferis also stated he can offer accommodation at his home to any community member needing a roof over their head during these difficult times and says he knows of other people who are willing to offer the same.

“I’m not posing as the Good Samaritan here, but when you see someone who’s fallen on the ground don’t you go and check on them and help them get back up?”

For those needing help or willing to help, the Pallaconian Brotherhood representatives can be reached on 0408717711 and 0426 209 829
