Antisemitic and racist blame for the Coronavirus pandemic has spread over the social media in Australia and around the world, a not unexpected phenomenon by Jewish watchers of hate crimes at the ECAJ, who have called for vigilance and action to combat these conspiracies and hate expressions against Jews, Muslims, LGBTI+ and physically and mentally disabled communities. Australian political leaders on both sides of the political divide, at the federal and state levels of government have greeted, congratulated and praised Israel and the Jewish community on the occasion of Israel’s 72nd Independence Day last Wednesday. Alleged victims of Malka Leifer’s sexual abuse and the president of the Zionist Federation of Australia, Jeremy Liebler expressed their satisfaction at the news that the Israeli Minister of Health Yaakov Litzman, who is alleged to have interfered in Leifer’s hearing over her extradition to Australia, has been moved from the Health Ministry to Building in the new Israeli unity government.
