“A Season of Death: A Memoir” was written by Mark Baker but with the challenges of illness and chemotherapy was co-written and edited by his wife Michelle Lesh and her writer - stepfather Raymond Gaita.
In a conversation with SBS Hebrew, Michelle Lesh revealed that Mark wrote the memoir primarily for his young daughter, who was eight months old when he was diagnosed, and under 2 when he died.

“He wanted her to understand his love and know him through the book. He also intended it for his three adult children and family,” Michelle explained.
She goes on to say that Mark saw this book as part of a trilogy.
When Mark passed away the book was nearly complete, with chapters and titles already established, “he wrote through excruciating pain and chemotherapy treatments.”
