Lewis Joshua Levi — a real estate agent from Darling Point, a volunteer, a singer, a driver, a helper, a friend — was recently honoured posthumously in the King’s Birthday Honours for his decades of service.

To understand the man behind the medal, his daughters, Deanna Stern and Kim Alster, shared memories of a father whose generosity shaped not only their lives, but the lives of countless others.

Lewis was known not only for his successful real estate career, which he ran alongside his wife Eva, but for his authenticity and genuine care for people.

Over more than 30 years, he volunteered across numerous organisations, particularly within the Jewish community.

He delivered meals, drove elderly people to appointments, visited nursing homes, and regularly sang to dementia patients—always prioritising personal connection over simply completing tasks.

He was a devoted father but as a grandfather, he shone even brighter.

Despite his wide recognition and leadership roles, Lewis preferred hands-on service and rarely spoke about his contributions.

His daughters describe him as universally loved, with a reputation that extended across generations and communities. His impact continues through his family, who remain active in charitable work.

Ultimately, Lewis Joshua Levi was “an ordinary man doing extraordinarily good things,” whose legacy of compassion, community, and quiet service t continues to inspire.
